Gender Equality

Although it was brought up in an odd way, I learned (and had an opportunity to teach) about differences in gender equality. The topic got brought up that we’ve had a picture of John Cena without a shirt on 2E nearly all year (as a running joke on the wing). As a result some residents wanted to see what it would be like to have a bakini model on our wing. Not even thinking about it, I tore the bakini model down from the wall and automatically thought it was unacceptable – but I never thought twice about the John Cena on 2nd floor.

I know that there is a lot that plays into this topic and because of that, I’m going to leave you with a few articles to look into, and encourage you to further your research on this in the future. It is a touchy subject to a lot of people, and there are both males and females who struggle with body image in different ways. Although I don’t condone the poster put up on our wing, it was a great learning experience for those involved.

Lastly, the John Cena poster has been taken down on 2E.
